Therapy
FOR EMPATHS, PERFECTIONISTS, & CREATIVES
Art washes away from the soul,
the dust of everyday life.
-Pablo Picasso
Have you ever wondered…
If you are holding on to life too tightly, yet you don’t know how else to operate?
Why the invisible load of parenting feels impossible to manage?
If your inclination to please, perform and perfect has left you feeling disconnected from your authentic self?
If the whispers to get creative are more important than you thought?
Why you seem to feel things so deeply?
In typical talk therapy, you spend your hour chatting away. An hour with me, however, may look much different. Likely we would start with a gentle exchange and a simple creative experience if you’re up for it. Some scribbling, pulling oracle cards, or searching for visual images to collage may be a nice start. If you don’t have a sense of what you want to work through, I would provide a gentle invitation, idea, or prompt to get you started. Most importantly, it is always client led, with the intention to regulate your nervous system using all of your senses. For thousands of years, humans have been expressing themselves through drawings, dancing and singing. It’s literally hard wired into our DNA. You were born to create.
MEET YOUR THERAPIST
Hi there, I’m Meg.
If you need a witness, a guide, a partner in this journey you’re navigating, I would be honored to travel with you. To learn your story and hold it with grace. To help you uncover your own wisdom and travel with you on your path to a truer, more authentic version of yourself is the highest honor.
Let’s connect and create.
FAQS
What if I’m not an artist?
If you can hold a crayon you can do this work. We are meant to draw and scribble and write but often have “art scars” that hold us back from our true nature. This is very much about the PROCESS of making something and not about the product itself. We focus on wether or not it feels comfortable to your nervous system, not whether or not it looks nice.
What does a typical session look like?
Essentially, it looks like whatever you need it to look like. You may need some time to scribble, collage, paint, or just talk during our time. Any of those options are ok. I’m happy to give a creative invitation or two to get you started (using color, line and shape to express), but this is truly client centered in that you (and your nervous system) decide what it needs to find comfort and resilience.
Is this approach good for someone with a history of trauma?
Yes. I can’t imagine a better way for survivors to engage in therapy. Everything hinges on the client’s ability (and willlingness) to engage with the materials and with me. It’s an unlearning and relearning of sorts, where the client learns how to connect, listen, honor, and pace their growth and recovery. It’s truly and individiualized experience.
Do you work with kids?
I love working with children. I am an elementary school counselor of 20 years and know all too well the difficulties school can present. I utilize a lot of play therapy, in addition to creativity, in my practice. I also believe the collaboration between private counselors and school faculty is the key to providing successful and comprehensive care.
